The 4th annual Top 16 Cup has been won by Joe Whitby of Premium!
The tournament was held in a packed Moonlighters bar.
The first round and quarter final matches included a few shock results, with Jordan Quirk knocking out the number one seed Carl Wilks in the first match of the evening. The first round also saw high prospect Will Schaap lose to eventual finalist Mike Howard.
Jordan Quirk then saw off 3rd seed Andy Beckerich in the quarter finals and was proving to be somewhat of a darkhorse in the competition. The quarter finals also saw 2nd seed Paul Schilling narrowly lose to Joe Whitby in one of the standout matches on the night.
In the semis, Joe beat Jordan 2-0, while Mike edged Gerry to a 2-1 victory. This meant that Joe would get the chance to retain the Top 16 cup in the final!
Joe started his title defence, winning the first two legs, meaning he needed just one more to taste victory. Mike, however, fought back winning the next two legs – taking the final to a deciding leg!
Despite Mike’s comeback, it was Joe who held his nerve in the final leg and retained the title winning the tournament for a second year in a row, with the final score ending 3-2.
